Seems like we’re blogging every day about regulators’ efforts to shut down claims for products purporting to provide prevention or treatment of COVID-19. With NAD’s recent action involving Your Superfoods dietary supplements, it has made clear that it has no patience for such claims either. And it is even undertaking routine monitoring to “find claims...touting misleading health-conferring benefits related to novel coronavirus or COVID-19 as part of its public interest mission to protect consumers particularly during this unprecedented time.”
At issue here was a video advertising Your Superfoods Immunity Bundle. The video included a discussion between the company owners about the immunity-boosting benefits of their supplements (including “Magic Mushroom Mix” which, to me, sounds like something providing a whole different benefit). Although the owners did not claim that their supplements would prevent or cure coronavirus, they did refer to the virus as a reason for why taking supplements to boost immunity is so important.
Your Superfoods told NAD that that it permanently discontinued the video and would avoid making any express or implied claims that promote its products’ abilities to protect consumers against COVID-19.
Case #6371.
