CNN reported that Facebook and Instagram will no longer permit any advertising or other content on their platforms that promotes conversion therapy.  The Trevor Project defines "conversion therapy" as "any of several dangerous and discredited practices aimed at changing an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity."

Instagram's Tara Hopkins said, "We don't allow attacks against people based on sexual orientation or gender identity and are updating our policies to ban the promotion of conversion therapy services."

Facebook's move comes after the company faces increased scrutiny, and a boycott, over how it manages hate speech on its platform.  Recently, Facebook has announced additional moves prohibiting hate speech and white nationalism.
