Canada's Ad Standards Releases New Influencer Disclosure Guidelines

Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance Canadian member Cathy Bate recently reported on new "Disclosure Guidelines" released by Advertising Standards Canada.

Like in the United States, Canada requires that any material connection between an influencer and an advertiser be clearly disclosed.  This new guidance, which covers blogs, social media networks, and video content, gives further advice about how to properly disclose the connection.  The guidance covers issues such as proper placement of hashtag disclosures, the use of social media network disclosure tools, use of disclosures in videos, choice of language, effective placement of disclosures, and other topics.

For more information about the guidance, check out Cathy's post about the development.

Disclosures are meant to provide transparency and honesty to all parties involved with the sponsored post.
