If You Say It's "Organic," It Has To Be All Organic

The Electronic Retailing Self-Regulation Program ("ERSP") recently told meal delivery service Sun Basket, Inc. that it shouldn't promote its meal kits as "organic" if all of the ingredients are not actually organic.  ERSP also said that the claim, "sustainable and organic ingredients," was likely to communicate that the meal kids contained all (or virtually all) organic ingredients.

Sun Basket's advertising came to ERSP's attention as a result of an anonymous challenge.

We do take careful note of ‘green’ claims, including claims that products are organic, natural, compostable, biodegradable, etc. because it is very difficult for consumers to determine on their own the composition of a product and many consumers carefully consider those attributes before purchasing.
