The Federal Trade Commission just announced that it is going to host a virtual roundtable on artificial intelligence and content creation.  The FTC said that it is holding the event "to better understand the impact of the use of generative artificial intelligence on music, filmmaking, and other creative fields."  The event will be held on October 4, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.

In announcing the event, the FTC explained that it is "seeking to better understand how the development and deployment of AI tools that can generate text, images, and audio—often referred to as generative artificial intelligence—may impact open and fair competition or enable unlawful business practices across markets, including in creative industries."  The FTC said that the event will focus on issues posed by generative AI, including concerns that have been raised by content creators about how AI is being used to create entertainment and other content.

FTC Chair Lina M. Khan will speak at the event, but the specific agenda and other speakers have not yet been announced.

No registration is required for the event, which can be attended simply by going to a link that the FTC will post on its site on the day of the event.
