What can you buy for $43,280?  Well, you could buy a convertible, an around-the-world cruise, or that timeshare you've always wanted in Cabo.  Or, you could pay for just one violation of your choice of a variety of provisions under Section 5 of the FTC Act.  

The FTC recently announced the new inflation-adjusted civil penalty dollar amounts for violations of various provision of Section 5 of the FTC Act.  This year, the amount increased from $42,530 to a whopping $43,280.

The FTC isn't entitled to civil penalties for just any violation of the FTC Act.  But, if you're unlucky enough to violate an FTC consent order or various FTC rules (such as the Mail Order Rule), for example, then you're looking at a maximum civil penalty of $43,280 per violation.  Yet another reason why don't want to cross paths with the FTC!
