NYAG Settles With Campgrounds Over Deceptive Marketing Practices

New York Attorney General Barbara D. Underwood just announced a settlement with various campgrounds over allegations that the campgrounds used misleading advertising to promote campground memberships.

The NYAG alleged that the campgrounds used misleading direct mailers that promised free giveaways, which were often never provided.  The NYAG also alleged that during sales pitches, the campgrounds misrepresented the amenities that would be available as well as consumers’ ability to reserve campsites at other campgrounds through a reciprocal campground program. The NYAG also said that the campgrounds failed to honor membership cancellation requests.

The NYAG's settlement was entered into with Adventure Resorts of America, LLC, Adirondack Adventure Resorts of Lake George, Inc., and Saratoga Escape Lodges & RV Resort, Inc.

Is this case a signal that the NYAG's Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau is going to start bringing more false advertising cases?

When New Yorkers spend thousands of dollars on a membership, they should receive the services and amenities they’re promised
