The DC Metro recently rejected an Amnesty International advertising campaign on the grounds that the transit system does not accept issue advertising.
The "Strom is Brewing" advertising campaign, which features photographs of Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, calls on people to "join the movement."
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said the campaign violated its standards, including prohibiting ads "intended to influence public policy" and ads "intended to influence members of the public regarding an issue on which there are varying opinions."
According to Amnesty International, the campaign was intended to spark activism to counteract the "hateful rhetoric" from political leaders.
The message of our ads was a simple one asking people to join us in upholding human rights, which is not and should not be a political or partisan issue.
